Accompanying this recent release is a manga adaptation that will begin serialization in Saikyo Jump, a monthly manga magazine released in Japan. These are usually for spin-off manga series related to bigger properties, such as the Super Dragon Ball Heroes series and My Hero Academia: Team-Up Missions, among others. Fire Emblem Engage’s manga serialization will begin next month, with its prologue chapter debuting February 3, 2023 and its first chapter premiering on March 3, 2023.

This manga adaptation will be helmed by mangaka Kazurou Kyou, whose previous works included Dead-end-Host, Himedoll!!, and Houkago Idol. In terms of the leading character, it will be using the male version of Engage’s protagonist Alear, who was shown off in a special illustration by Kyou. Since the manga is being released through Saikyo Jump, chapters will be coming out on a monthly basis.
The first three chapters of the Fire Emblem Engage manga will be free to read on Weekly Shonen Jump Plus. Any chapters released after that will only be available for free for three weeks and will require an account and subscription to the service if fans wish to re-read the old chapters or catch up on ones that they had missed. Since this manga is an adaptation of the game, players should expect a condensed version of the game’s events. As a teaser before its official release next month, Nintendo included a few pages of the manga adaptation, showing Alear still sleeping and a flashback to events of the past.
This isn’t the first time the Fire Emblem series has had a manga adaptation, with many past games like Genealogy of the Holy War and Binding Blade getting ones that lasted for a couple of years after release. Recent manga released after a Fire Emblem game’s release have been more comedic, in-joke and gag-focused 4-panel styled strips, with Fire Emblem Heroes having an officially licensed one that is still ongoing to this day. This new adaptation focused on Engage should be a refreshing read for those who are curious or enjoyed the game.
Fire Emblem Engage is available now exclusively for Nintendo Switch.
