RELATED: Beloved Characters Who Will Appear In Fire Emblem Engage
A trailer dropped in the September 2022 Nintendo Direct that announced Fire Emblem: Engage and showcased some interesting elements and core mechanics of the game, some that are entirely brand-new in Fire Emblem history. From what was seen, the story will follow the main character, Alear, from the Divine Dragon race as they fight the Fell Dragon to preserve the peace in the land of Elyos with the help of old beloved heroes.
5 Main Character
Like almost every recent Fire Emblem installment, the main character is supposed to reflect the player and, thus, their gender and name can be chosen. This contrasts with older Fire Emblem games where the main characters were their own character and weren’t a projection of the player, which some say elevated the character by giving them more personality and more specific goals and ambitions.
In Fire Emblem: Engage, the player is put in the shoes of Alear, a character who belongs to the Divine Dragon race. They have blue and red hair and assorted eyes of the said colors as well. From what was seen in the trailer, they have been asleep for 1000 years and have awakened to save the world from the Fell Dragon. They unlock the ability to summon heroes thanks to the Emblem Rings. It was also seen that they wield a sword called Libération, which is a sword that could hold some important history or lore.
4 Emblem Heroes
The Emblem heroes is a new concept introduced by Fire Emblem: Engage, where heroes from other Fire Emblem installments can be summoned, thanks to Emblem Rings. The confirmed heroes were seen at the beginning of the trailer on an art wheel and are, for now, going to be twelve. Notably, these heroes are Marth, Celica, Sigurd, Leif, Micaiah, Ike, Eirika, Lyn, Chrom, Lucina, Corrin, and Byleth.

All these characters are beloved protagonists from their respective games, from old as Fire Emblem: Shadow Dragon and the Blade of Light in 1990, to more recent ones like Fire Emblem: Three Houses in 2019. This would also mean that all the Fire Emblem universes are connected so it would be interesting to see how this is handled. It is also possible that more characters get added as Emblems later on.
3 New Characters
With each new mainline installment for a Fire Emblem game, one of the most exciting reveals is always the cast of characters. After all, these are the units players will be interacting with, growing supports with, using as soldiers in combat, and maybe even marry in-game. While Fire Emblem: Engage will have loads of already known and beloved characters, it will certainly not lack when it comes to the newer roster.
At the beginning of the trailer, fans see a bunch of unnamed characters, and it is unknown what their role in the story will be. The game also introduces some named characters to showcase some weapons. The named characters include Valder, an old white-haired Paladin, Etie, a petite brunette Archer, Framme, a white-haired Brawler, Louis, a heavy-armored unit, and Chole, perhaps the game’s main Pegasus Knight. Other characters that were named were Celine and Alfred, who seem to possess the ability to fuse with 2 Emblems in Celica and Sigurd.
2 Engage System
While the name of this new feature isn’t exactly confirmed, it’s possible it could be called the Engage System or the Fusion System, and it is what the game, Fire Emblem: Engage, is named after. This feature allows a unit to equip an Emblem Ring and, with that, fuse with an Emblem hero to become more powerful and gain a far more special form. It is unclear yet how this fusion is activated during battle, but it could be achieved after a meter fills up, or certain conditions are accomplished.

During the trailer for Fire Emblem: Engage, fans were able to witness some of these fusions. Indeed, the first one that is shown is the fusion between Alear, the main character, and Marth, the Hero King. Their fusion creates a white-dressed unit with what seem to be bluish wings, and a new weapon, Mercurius. Other fusions seen were Celine and Celica, the princess of Zofia, and also Alfred and Sigurd, the prince of Calphy.
1 Main Villain
In Fire Emblem: Engage, the main villain is currently unnamed with little information concerning them. What is largely known is that they are a Fell Dragon. This antagonist is the reason Alear, the main protagonist and a Divine Dragon is awakened from a 1000-year slumber and he is on a quest to collect all the Emblem Rings from all across the land of Elyos.
The contrast between the main character and antagonist is interesting as they both belong to the dragon race, and in Fire Emblem, a Fell Dragon is often just a dragon who has lived long enough to lose its mind, hence why most slumber so as to avoid that from happening. The Fell Dragon in Fire Emblem: Engage seems to be similar to Grima, the Fell Dragon from Fire Emblem: Awakening.
