While supports no longer carry this function, players can still unlock up to a rank of A support between certain characters, which can lead to some pretty interesting dialogue between the two units. There are many ways to strengthen this support between characters, but these are by far the quickest ways to strengthen the bond.
6 Eating Dinner Together In The Cafe
After each chapter battle or skirmish, players may return to the Somniel and acquire a meal to buff the stats of the main character as well as two dinner guests they decide to take with them. However, this meal can also be used as a chance to increase the support between all three characters.
Therefore, when the player is deciding on their dinner guests, they should see which characters are able to have supports together to increase the chance of unlocking the next conversation between the two characters. This is an especially great way to get supports for Alear as they have support conversations with every single character in the game, and therefore they are certain to gain more by having dinner.
5 Gifting Their Favorite Items To Them
Similar to Fire Emblem: Three Houses, players can find various items while exploring the Somniel, which can be given as gifts to the various units that make up the player’s party. While some of these items are unwanted such as the incredibly common Horse Manure, others make for well-loved presents to hand to the player’s most cherished characters.
Unfortunately, these gifts can only be given by Alear, and therefore it will only strengthen their bond with a character and not between two other units. As the player progresses through the story, they will then also unlock the gift shop, which has better presents to hand to units. Similar to other gift-giving mechanics certain items are far better received than others, and therefore players should attempt to work out the interests of characters before gifting them expensive items.
4 Fighting Near Each Other In Battle
Although Fire Emblem Engage doesn’t allow units to team up to take on opponents in battle, this doesn’t mean that it is all for nothing to keep allies close together. Firstly, some characters now class as backup characters, which does allow them to help during an ally’s attack, but also, just by being near an ally, the bond between the two characters will strengthen.
The player will know if the two characters are getting along due to the love heart that will appear above both units on the map after their turn. This is one of the quickest ways to gain support between characters; each chapter will take a number of turns to complete. Therefore, keeping the two units together for the vast majority of it is certain to unlock a new conversation once the battle is entirely over.
3 Training Together In The Arena
Another popular way to increase the supports of each unit is by allowing them to face others in the arena. While the main reason for using this activity in the Somniel is to increase the overall level of a character or increase the bond between a unit and an Emblem Ring, it can also be used as a way to gain extra support between two units.
The only issue with this tactic is the player can’t decide who the unit they wish to level up will go against. This means that the ally going into the arena to train three separate times may be put against three different allies. In some cases, this can be a blessing as the character may get a support conversation with each one; at other times, this can only lead to an experience increase and no support conversation at all.
2 Healing Them Constantly When They Need It
It may sound ridiculous or dangerous to allow an ally to get hit while in battle, but those that can use staffs are the most likely to gain supports with a wide range of units. Every time an ally is healed, they boost their support with that unit. Therefore, if a player has the money to waste on multiple staffs and a character with a decent defense stat, this can be done multiple times to quickly unlock conversations between the two of them.
It isn’t just healers either; other class that can do certain buffs to allies can also quickly increase their supports using abilities like Chain Guard to protect a unit. Giving a character another turn with the dance ability that only the special class Dancer and those using Emblem Byleth can do will also increase support.
1 Using The Tarot Cards To Their Advantage
Nearing the late game, players will finally recruit Seadall into their party; not only is he a great unit to have access to due to being a dancer, he also unlocks a crucial activity at the Somniel that can help earn supports faster.
By visiting Seadall in the evening, players can ask him to read the fortune of all the units in the player’s roster. Combined with a bit of favor text, Seadall will suggest who that unit should stay close to in order to help them get through their fortune. By keeping those units together in the next battle, they are much more likely to unlock a support conversation faster, and therefore taking them into a skirmish would be incredibly helpful.
