RELTAED: Things To Expect From Fire Emblem Engage
This game forces the player into the shoes of the main character Alear, a Divine Dragon that has awoken from their slumber after a thousand years with the goal of defeating the Fell Dragon and saving the world of Elyos from its grim fate. Alear also has the assistance of a cast of old and new characters. As of now, only one trailer for the game has dropped and while it was only a few minutes’ worth of content, some details in there were quite hard to catch.
5 Missing Charm Statistic
A very recent addition to the Fire Emblem franchise was the Charm Statistic. This was first added to the games with the release of Fire Emblem: Three Houses. It also made an appearance in the spin-off, Fire Emblem Warriors: Three Hopes. With that in mind, this Statistic added a lot to the gameplay and, specifically, it affected Battalions and Gambits.
It allowed Battalions to hit with higher accuracy and for the unit to avoid enemy battalions more swiftly. At the same time, it also acted as a boost for the Battalion’s attack force. In Fire Emblem: Engage, this feature is missing when the statistics are looked at closely, meaning Battalions and Gambits will likely be skipping this game as well.
4 Personal Special Ability
As with most of the recent Fire Emblem games, each usable unit holds a personal ability that is unique to them and is permanently equipped. This feature can be seen for every character, one example being Felix’s personal ability from Fire Emblem: Three Houses, Lone Wolf, which increases his power output when he is not paired up with a Battalion. Not only does this boost his power, it also reflects his personality and character. It makes each character more diverse and unique and gives a reason as to why someone could want to pick a certain unit over another.
In Fire Emblem: Engage, this is, thankfully, making a comeback, as it’s seen along with other abilities. For example, Alear, the main character, possesses a special ability called ‘Divinely Inpiring,’ or Alfred, with his ability ‘Self Improver’. As of now, it is not known what these abilities do and one can only assume from the names.
3 Emblem Bonuses
Fire Emblem: Engage premiered a brand-new feature, and that is the possibility to equip an Emblem Ring that assigns one of the 12 Emblem Heroes to the selected unit. In some aspects, this seems to act like the Battalion equipment in Fire Emblem: Three Houses, where equipping a Battalion could mean boosting (or deboosting) certain statistics such as strength or magic.

In Fire Emblem: Engage, this might go a bit deeper. As seen in the trailer, when Marty is equipped with Alear, a spike in combat skills such as physical attack, hit, avoid, and critical is seen, as well as a peak in basic statistics, such as strength, dexterity, and speed. The same is seen with Alfred when he is equipped with Sigurd.
2 Bond Level
The Bond Level seems to be a mechanic that works similarly to the Battalion level in Fire Emblem: Three Houses. In Fire Emblem: Three Houses, the more a unit uses a Battalion, the more it levels up and increases the bonuses granted to the unit until it reaches its maximum level 5. In Fire Emblem: Engage, the bond feature is only seen for a mere second and is very easy to overlook.
After Celica and Celine go into Engage mode (or fusion), at the bottom of the screen is their bond level – in their case, Bond 10. One way it could be different from the Battalion level is that it resets if the Emblem Ring is transferred to a different character, meaning the player should choose wisely to which character to give the ring.
1 Alear’s Swords
Alear’s swords are another easy-to-overlook detail in the trailer as they are not made out to be a focus. In most Fire Emblem games, the main character’s sword is always given a lot of importance and lore, a few examples being Byleth’s Creator Sword in Fire Emblem: Three Houses, Corrin’s Yato in Fire Emblem: Fate, or Chrom and Lucina’s Falchion from Fire Emblem: Awakening.
In the trailer, Alear is seen with not one but two special named swords, one before his Engage fusion, and one after. His first one is called Libération, a sword with a golden and dark blue hilt. The second one is seen after the fusion with Marth, and is named Mercurius. It looks similar to Libération but stands out with some blue lights and a larger hilt.
