Fire Emblem Heroes is a free-to-play tactical role-playing game which is played on a 8x6 grid map. In the almost five years of the game’s existence, players can access hundreds of unique characters spanning the previous titles from the rest of the franchise alongside original ones made specifically for the mobile title. Most characters can be earned using a summoning banner which works like a gacha system of sorts.

The newly released trailer for Fire Emblem Heroes shows the latest Special Heroes Gods Renewed New Year’s Banner which will come out on January 1, 2023. The banner will include characters such as Ash, Elm, Panne, along with the duo unit Askr with Embla. Said characters will have five-star variants available to earn in-game except for Panne who will have both a four-star and five-star version. Players will also be able to earn four-star and five-star versions of Yarne during the New Year’s Tempest Trial+ event. That’s more characters to use to battle Fire Emblem Heroes antagonist Princess Veronica.
In addition to this, all Fire Emblem Heroes players will also gain access to a new paralogue story which features all the Gods Renewed units celebrating the New Year. Upon completion of the new side story across all difficulties, orbs can be earned as part of the rewards which may be used then again to summon from the event. Perhaps, it’s the generous cycle of awarding users through gameplay that keeps Fire Emblem Heroes a highly successful game as it regularly adds new content.
With the continued positive support for the game and the renewed interest in the Fire Emblem franchise, the addition of playable variants for Yarne and Panne in Fire Emblem Heroes will help boost popularity of the older games. Meanwhile, the focus on Book 6 original characters will help keep the game’s eyes and direction on its own identity as well as the future of the series by providing alternate versions of characters introduced during that chapter.
The regular updating and inclusion of new character versions to be earned during special events could possibly shift the current data for the rarest Fire Emblem Heroes units to summon which in turn could lead to continuous support by both the players and the developers.
