The original footage of the video has since been removed by Activision, though it had been circulating quite a bit since its initial leak, with plenty of breakdowns of the footage beginning to pop up all over the internet. Modern Warfare’s battle royale map leaked some time ago, and the footage seems to fall in line with what was seen there. The mode, apparently dubbed “Warzone”, should come sometime over the course of Season 2, though there’s no telling precisely when.

As far as the footage itself goes, it looks pretty much exactly how fans expected. Players run around collecting loot and battling against others as they try to survive out the storm, or green gas, and win the match. However, players are also able to earn currency throughout the match, called plunder, that can then be used to call in loadouts and other rewards, like a gas mask that helps survive in the green gas or a UAV.

Besides plunder, the mode looks similar to what was seen in Black Ops 4, just with a more modern aesthetic. For players that have grown bored with the regular multiplayer matches, battle royale may be a more entertaining way to earn Modern Warfare’s Season 2 rewards from the season pass. Worst case scenario, it adds a little bit more diversity to the match types.

The mode should prove to be a cool new addition to the game, though it still isn’t clear when it will launch. It seems to be mostly finished in the leaked footage, so it could drop in the next few weeks, but it isn’t entirely clear whether or not that will be the case. The classic map Rust just released, which has kept fans engaged with the game, but it’s always great to see more content get introduced. For now, though, fans will just have to settle with what they have.

Call of Duty: Modern Warfare is available now for PC, PS4, and Xbox One.
