Geeked Week is a five-day virtual event that runs from June 6 to June 10 and celebrates Netflix’s genre entertainment with cast interviews, sneak peeks, and teaser trailers from various series, films, and games. On this occasion, the streamer teased three separate upcoming horror series: Wednesday from Burton, The Midnight Club from Flanagan, and Cabinet of Curiosities from del Toro.

Wednesday is a coming-of-age horror comedy that centers around the precocious young daughter of the Addams family, played by Jenna Ortega (Scream, X). The short trailer shows Ortega’s Wednesday Addams braiding her hair before walking towards the camera as Thing (the family’s disembodied hand-servant) climbs to her shoulder. The pair then do the iconic finger-snap from the original series theme song. In addition to Ortega, Wednesday, which arrives on Netflix later this year, stars Catherine Zeta-Jones, Luis Guzmán, and Addams Family movie vet Christina Ricci (who famously portrayed the character in the 1991 film adaptation).

Meanwhile, the sneak peek at The Midnight Club shows several people in a creepy Victorian home raising their glasses and toasting to those “seen or unseen, here but not here” as thunder is heard in the background. The series, created by Flanagan (The Haunting of Hill House) and based on a 1994 novel by Christopher Pike, follows a group of seven young adults living in a hospice for the terminally ill. The group, who call themselves The Midnight Club, make a pact: when the first of them dies, they will try to communicate from beyond the grave —but the deal doesn’t go as planned.

Last but not least is Cabinet of Curiosities, an anthology series curated by del Toro that will feature an eclectic set of stars, both in front and behind the camera. Cabinet of Curiosities will star Andrew Lincoln, Ben Barnes, Eric André, Rupert Grint, and Sofia Boutella, among many others. The trailer also reveals that some of horror’s indie darlings will take on the director’s chair, including Jennifer Kent (The Babadook), Panos Cosmatos (Mandy), David Prior (The Empty Man), and Ana Lily Amirpour (A Girl Walks Home Alone at Night).

Both Burton and del Toro have extensive careers in horror, so it’s only natural for them to deliver good quality work. While Flanagan is slightly new to the horror scene, the director has proved that he is just as worthy of praise as his more experienced colleagues with films like 2017’s Gerald’s Game and series like The Haunting of Bly Manor and Midnight Mass. Nevertheless, only time will tell if the finished products are any good —though judging from the teasers, they will at least be entertaining.

Wednesday, The Midnight Club, and Cabinet of Curiosities premiere on Netflix in 2022.
