Set in the world of Remnant, the story focuses on four women who want to train and become Huntresses at Beacon Academy in order to defeat evil creatures known as Grimm. Together, Ruby, Weiss, Blake, and Yang form team RWBY (an acronym of all their initials) to try and stop the Grimm’s darkness.

RWBY was created by Monty Oum, who also wrote, directed, and voice-acted in the series. The series is a blend of science fiction and fantastical fairytale. The series’ production company, Rooster Teeth, has collaborated with other entertainment companies such as BANDAI NAMCO and Shaft to introduce RWBY into the anime world.

The style of the anime is typical two-dimensional animation that is traditionally used in anime, which is a deviation from the more 3D style of the original series akin to a video game. The trailer is in Japanese, but fans can expect an English dub as well.

The four leading ladies will be played by Saori Hayami (Kakegurui and Demon Slayer) as Ruby Rose, Yōko Hikasa (Kingdom and Shaman King) as Weiss Schnee,Yū Shimamura (Attack on Titan and Sword Art Online) as Blake Belladonna and Ami Koshimizu (Spice and Wolf and Sailor Moon Crystal) as Yang Xiao Long. The original English dub of RWBY will be voiced by the original cast, namely Lindsay Jones, Kara Eberle, Arryn Zech, and Barbara Dunkelman, respectively.

The animation will be headed by Gen Urobuchi of Shaft, who has received recognition for his work on Puella Magi Madoka Magica and Fate/Zero among other series. The story will be penned by Tow Ubukata. His notable works include Mardock Scramble, Le Chevalier D’Eon and Heroic Age. Hayami, will be performing the anime’s ending track, “Awake” while Void_Chords will perform the opening theme, “Beyond Selves”. No official release date for RWBY: Ice Queendom has been set.
