Attentive fans will know that as the day the latest game in the main series, Dragon Quest 11, is released for the Switch. Now, they’ll also be able to dive into Dragon Quest, Dragon Quest 2: Luminaries of the Legendary Line, and Dragon Quest 3: The Seeds of Salvation at the same time through the Nintendo eShop.

This will mark the first time these games will go by the Dragon Quest moniker in a console release, being that they were originally localized for the NES with the name Dragon Warrior. From the look of things, these versions of the games will be based on the versions that were released for mobile devices a few years ago, and as such will include better graphics and improved gameplay.

Originally released between 1986 and 1988, these three Dragon Quest games make up what’s known as the “Erdrick Trilogy.” Each of these saw players take on the role of “The Hero” and travel through many realms to defeat the likes of “the nefarious Hargon” and “Baramos, the master of darkness” in tales that would define the RPG genre for decades afterward.

Fans curious about revisiting these pieces of gaming history won’t have to pay much to do so. Price-wise, Dragon Quest will only cost $4.99, while Dragon Quest 2 and Dragon Quest 3 will cost $6.49 and $12.49, respectively. For just over $20, fans old and new will be able to enjoy these classes at home and on the go.

It seems safe to say that 2019 has been turning out to be a good year for Dragon Quest and the Nintendo Switch. Dragon Quest Builders 2 came out for it earlier this summer, The Hero was included in Super Smash Bros Ultimate, and Dragon Quest 11 will be out in less than two weeks. Rounding things off with some vintage rereleases just serves to make a good year all the better.

Dragon Quest, Dragon Quest 2, and Dragon Quest 3 will be out for the Switch on September 27.
